Looking for Mac software similar to ZoomBrowser
My married woman switched from a PC to a Mac a few years ago and has been struggling ever since to detect good photograph management software. (I am a Windows techie, but know goose egg nigh Macs). Up until the Mac, she had been using ZoomBrowser for probably 15 years.
The built in OSX software stores photos in a database instead of straight on the filesystem and doesn't allow her to directly edit in Photoshop, attach a picture to a photo album creation website, etc without exporting them. It's a nightmare to piece of work with if y'all want to access photos whatever other way than using the Apple photo software.
So I installed Picasa. She didn't like that. And so later on tons of research, I purchased Adobe Lightroom for her. She hates that too and has had nil simply problems. Information technology's overly complex for her and now for some reason it seems to have a lost a ton of her photos. I'k hoping it's just a thing of the index being messed up and they're nonetheless on her Hard disk, but honestly I haven't looked. In the worst case scenario, hopefully Time Machine is doing what it should be and bankroll upward everything to my NAS.

In Photos, you can utilise either a managed library (the default; images copied into a parcel folder), or referenced library (images in folders out in the Finder, like Lr). Mayhap endeavour the latter. Any images edited in Photos would still only exist "in" Photos though.
At that place are other photo browsers that just well, browse photos. Wait at Mylio, or XnViewMP, or Lyn. Or even Bridge, since you lot've already got that.

FastRawViewer is a very fast image browser with advanced features. You can view the bodily RAW histogram or opt for the usual JPEG version. Image Capture, which comes with the Mac, nigh does what you want. It doesn't auto-create a subfolder based on date only, if the date you want is the download date and not the capture engagement, you could probably work up an Automator script to do that.

Many years ago I got tired of trying to keep up with all the different software possibilities for managing my photos. Programs I liked went out of business organization, others failed to event upgrades, others got as well expensive, etc. I finally realized that the Mac Finder along with Image Capture and a elementary utility or two does a fine job.
I import photos from my camera with Image Capture. I and then run every epitome through ExifRenamer (or anything similar) to rename it using the date/time it was taken. I.due east., img0024 becomes 170228-1337-49 (yymmdd-hhmm-ss).
I then group the images into folders that are also named using the date of the showtime photo in that album. I.due east., images from a trip to Boston will go into a binder chosen 17 0221 Boston (YY MMDD Location).
I exercise some other organizing based on what camera I used, etc, but you lot get the full general thought. The point is, the Mac file system is very clear and easy, the originals are untouched, information technology's easy to search, and y'all never have to worry almost software being outdated. I just shoot JPEG, not RAW, but I think my organization would work for whatsoever kind of originals.

Simple interface, easy to use, effective at managing my 40TB'due south+ of photos is the piddling-known program called Mylio. www.mylio.com. Can't say enough good things about information technology. Am now using Mylio for DAM and DXO Optics Pro for serious edits.
